Sector collaboration
UEBT promotes due diligence and positive impact in botanical supply chains through a range of activities. We provide tools, guidance, and support for UEBT members and partners, conduct supply chain assessments as part of the UEBT verification and certification programmes, and we provide a platform for inclusive and effective collaboration.
Our sector collaboration initiatives, which operate on a voluntary and pre-competitive basis, promote sharing of experiences and joint action. Their focus is bringing together different stakeholders to identify responsible sourcing risks and their root causes and find effective solutions that complement and enhance company-level commitments and actions.
UEBT sector collaboration initiatives include:
IFRA-UEBT Responsible Sourcing Initiative (RSI). A joint initiative with the International Fragrance Association (IFRA), this is a platform for information exchange on social and environmental risks in key natural raw materials used in fragrance and on potential pre-competitive and collaborative action to improve sourcing practices.
Working Group on responsible sourcing of Guaiac Wood essential oil in Paraguay (WGGW). A multistakeholder platform, bringing together brands, fragrance houses, traders, local processing companies, civil society and national authorities, which aims to promote responsible sourcing practices for guaiac wood essential oil and ensure compliance with CITES-related requirements.
Bulgaria Rose Responsible Sourcing Working Group. This is an open working group, coordinated by UEBT, which brings together fragrance houses, distilleries, and other actors sourcing Bulgaria rose, with the aim to jointly define and implement action to promote responsible sourcing practices, strengthen the Bulgarian rose sector, and advance positive impact on people and biodiversity.
Initiative for Responsible Carnauba (IRC). The Initiative for Responsible Carnauba (IRC) is a UEBT-facilitated working group that is supporting local companies to improve conditions in Carnauba wax sourcing areas, while tackling social and environmental challenges. The goal is responsible Carnauba wax production that respects people and helps to regenerate biodiversity in the unique Caatinga biome of Brazil.
