Biodiversity Action Plans

UEBT works with companies on Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs) that are an effective approach to biodiversity regeneration and restoration.

A plan you can act on

Essentially a BAP is a company’s own tailored design and adoption of practices that ensure the sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity when growing and sourcing ingredients from biodiversity.

A BAP is ingredient-specific, relevant to local contexts and needs, and developed by or in partnership with wild collectors, farmers and workers.

It is flexible and can be adapted to o all types of supply chains. It also paves the way for collaborations with local initiatives working on biodiversity regeneration-related topics

Any company can benefit

The BAP approach provides companies with many benefits, including:

  • Alignment with biodiversity requirements from a recognised international sustainability standard.

  • Tools to guide the identification of the most relevant biodiversity aspects you should act upon for biodiversity regeneration.

  • An approach to define specific actions for your supply chain that consider the actual needs, opportunities and resources available to promote biodiversity restoration.

  • A way to implement actions in different contexts, supply chains and production systems simultaneously and systemically while showing progress towards overall targets.

  • A framework to give value to your biodiversity actions already in place.

  • A method and set of indicators to monitor progress toward your biodiversity regeneration targets and expected impact.

  • A way to share responsibilities within a supply chain depending on the complexity and the capacity of your suppliers, farmers or workers, and a way to build collaborations outside supply chains with existing initiatives.

Regenerative programme

Biodiversity Action Plans are also a key component of the UEBT regenerative programme.

The UEBT regenerative programme is based on the UEBT standard with a regenerative module add-on.  This add-on consists of regenerative impact indicators that are set as part of a Biodiversity Action Plan and for which the impact is assessed. The add-on also contains a strengthened requirement for the indicator in the UEBT standard on living income for local producers.

Organisations can contact us at impact@uebt.org to learn more about the UEBT regenerative programme and to discuss with us whether regenerative practices might be possible for their ingredients being sourced. In the regenerative programme, certification or verification options are optional and available, and externally validated claims may also be possible including use of a UEBT certified regenerative practices label.
